Yoga Evolution

Back in the day I had a good beard going before they were considered in fashion!

In 2008, my good friend and director Jay, created one of our first yoga DVDs called “Yoga Evolution” in India. I’ll never forget scouting for our location we were on a beach in Goa which looked pretty but we thought to ourselves, “who’s to say this isn’t a beach anywhere else in the world?” We needed something more unique and special!

So we hired a local driver, Suhas, who took us off the beaten track as we rocked out to ‘Om Namath Shivaya” chants on endless repeat. Eventually we found an ancient temple rarely visited by foreigners. We met with the local Bhramin priest, shared some devotional prayers together, and miraculously he gave us full permission to film there.

So we came back the following day and Jay and I filmed at the temple. There were kids watching and playing in the background. Priests moving through their daily responsibilities and at one point a large cow came walking through the frame. For the last part of the class we ended back at the beach and as the class ends an epic sun dissolves into the ocean.

It was raw, unpredictable and purely magical!

Out of all the thousands of classes I’ve created, this is the one I hear about the most. It may be retro and super low budget, but it somehow is infused with an essence that could never be duplicated.

In post production we created an original score combined with music by good friends Govind Das and Jacqueline Michelle that perfectly captures the spirit of Bhakti yoga.

This Yoga Evolution class will forever be near and dear to my heart and I’m thrilled to share it’s now streaming on Inner Dimension — when you’re ready to sweat with soul and be transported to magical India — I’ll see YOU on the mat!
